Welcome to the Spring 2025 (24th) edition of the Turvey Allotment Newsletter and we hope you are keeping well. The daylight hours have noticeably increased over the last few weeks which will allow more time tidying up and preparing our plots for the year ahead and we hope you have a successful growing season with some better weather that the wet one we had last year!

We had a bad start to the year with storm Eowyn at the end of January and those of you with a polytunnel may have been more affected than others, there are a few pictures later in the newsletter showing some damage in the aftermath of the storm. As we start into March, we hope the worst of the weather is behind us but never rule out a late frost, so don’t be too quick with the potatoes!!

Volunteer Day

We are going to organise a volunteering day on site on Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of April from 11 to 1 p.m. and we hope to run it every two months thereafter.

The idea is to get as many hands as possible to do some general maintenance around the allotment site for an hour or two on the above dates. This will improve the appearance and upkeep of the allotment site and enhance plotholders experience while working on their plots.

Solar panels

We are delighted that the solar panels have now been installed onto the portacabin, all we need now is some sunshine or daylight!! The power supply will be very useful during the summer months when the power tools in the portacabin will be used more often.

Tallest sunflower competition

We will hold the annual tallest sunflower competition this year and the details can be found on the homepage. If you do plan on entering please email the committee and we will arrange seeds for you, the competition will be run this year with all entrants using the same seeds.
